The Ida Jean (named after my Mother) was built in 1873. This Italiana design was the creation of an ancestor who came here from Ireland. The land was purchased in 1858 when the village was called Middlesex. In the 1860's the village was renamed Pentwater. The story of the village name passed on to me by my ancestors is that an indian tribe once living on the many waterways of our village found the waters so colorful that it was called Pentwater (translation) Painted waters. My home has stayed in the family through the generations. In the many years, changes have been made, but always keeping the large rooms and old world charm. Over time bathrooms have been added and modern features as well. In my renovation experience with the home, I have found that the house was remodeled every 30 years to bring in the many features of the era. The new and improved wiring of the early 1900's to the modern plumbing of the 1930's. In the 1970's my father upgraded, and now my turn has come. Much of the old world charm still exists and have been placed back in my home. Today's technology has been a great help in making my home more efficient while keeping the nostlagia alive. I hope you will enjoy your stay in a home built on many years of love and heritage.
